Crashed But Not Lost

Late yesterday the hard drive on Gus' laptop crashed as he was backing up all the pictures we had taken since arriving in southern Africa. We have spent most of today recruiting the best and brightest of Capetonians to recover our treasured photographs and restart our blog dedicated laptop. Dratt! Delayed again!

Friends and Family

It has been 15 days since our trip’s inauguration. Between the hectic schedule of the first two weeks and the absence of Wi-Fi in many locations we decided not to post, with some regret. Now we are on a pace which will allow some silent time along with blogging time. Over the next several days we plan to post our experiences. Learning an African handshake - a dialogue of touching another’s hand in greeting. People pure and gracious - we were honored to be so welcomed. Oh! … And the truly awesome wildlife. Our focus will be on “what we write accompanied by images” rather than “when and in what order we publish”. We believe that the wait will not disappoint.

Start Spreading the News, We’re Leaving Today

It has been nearly nine months since we booked our “five-stop” RTW itinerary. We leave today! But before we are Out of Berkeley we leave behind our reliable friend Jackie Holmes, our close neighbor Diana Deikman, and Alison & Kyle as stewards of our home and domestic affairs.

Our first stop is Into Africa. We, along with our very good friends Curt & Lynn Glenn, will spend 14 days exploring the magical and vast landscape of southern Africa. The journey will begin in Cape Town, continue on to Johannesburg, venture into Botswana for viewing of awe-inspiring wildlife, allow us to experience the wonder of Victoria Falls, and enjoy a magnificent train excursion on the Blue Train.

It is our hope that we will be travelers and not simply tourists in this amazing land. If only we can be patient, respectful and gracious, avoiding anger and disappointment. We understand that loud and threatening is ugly and all too often American. "If you lose your sense of humor, nothing is funny” Wavy Gravy
