Winelands

We had an early start to our day in the Winelands. Our goal was modest. We hoped to visit three wineries and taste a Chenin Blanc, a Bordeaux style wine, and a Shiraz. We picked Stellenbosch Valley (comparable to Napa Valley) over Franschoek (comparable to Sonoma) and Paarl. The three wineries and three wines:

·         Ken Forrester Wines

Ken Forrester Vineyards

·         Rust en Vrede

Rust en Vrede ("Rest and Peace")

·         De Trafford
De Trafford Hillside Vineyards

All three wineries and the targeted wines (different vintages than hoped for) were spectacular. Each is available, although in limited quantities, in the United States.

We had a late lunch at Tokara with our friends Curt and Lynn

later returning to The Mount Nelson for an early night. The next day … Johannesburg.
